Lecture by Joanna Godlewicz-Adamiec and Paweł Piszczatowski during the Medieval Studies Days
Joanna Godlewicz-Adamiec and Paweł Piszczatowski delivered a lecture during the Medieval Studies Days at the Faculty of Modern Languages (12–13 March 2026) titled Where Did Unicorns Come From? Between Medieval Natural Knowledge and Imagination. The presentation combined reflection on historical culture with the latest developments in environmental humanities. The speakers addressed the question of the origins of unicorns by analysing their presence at the intersection of medieval knowledge and imagination, while also identifying the mechanisms behind the formation and functioning of mythical representations. In the discussion following the lecture, they also referred to contemporary concepts of protecting nature–culture environments.
